Question 1

Do I need to prove my professional status to register a .pro domain?

Accepted Answer

Originally, .pro domains required verification of professional credentials, but requirements have been significantly relaxed. While the registry still maintains this guideline, enforcement varies by registrar. Many registrars now allow registration without strict verification, though some may request proof for certain categories. Always check your registrar's specific requirements before proceeding.

Question 2

Is a .pro domain better for SEO than other TLDs?

Accepted Answer

Search engines treat all gTLDs equally in terms of SEO value. The .pro extension itself provides no inherent SEO advantage. However, a well-optimized .pro domain can perform well if it contains relevant keywords and follows SEO best practices. The professional connotation might indirectly benefit certain service-based businesses by establishing credibility with users, which can improve conversion rates.

Question 3

What is the resale value of .pro domains compared to .com?

Accepted Answer

.pro domains generally have lower resale value than their .com counterparts due to reduced market demand and type-in traffic. Premium keyword .pro domains in professional categories may retain some value, particularly for high-value professions. The market for .pro domains is more niche, with buyers typically being professionals seeking a relevant online identity rather than domain investors. Pricing typically ranges from $100 to $2,000 for premium names, significantly below comparable .com domains.
